Information relevant to the Public Sector Equality Duty
The All-Wales Diversity Group, chaired by Deputy Chief Constable Jackie Roberts (Association of Chief Police Officers Cymru lead for Equality and Diversity), agreed that the following information held by the police is relevant to the Public Sector Equality Duty:
- information about hate crimes and incidents reported to us;
- information about stops and searches;
- information about violent crimes committed against women;
- information about user satisfaction;
- information about complaints;
- statistical information about the officers and staff that we employ.
Deputy Chief Constable Roberts endorsed the Group’s decision to publish the above information by 31 January 2012, in compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty.
We have been consulting about our equality priorities since November 2011. The document explains how we have used equality information and research to decide on our current priorities for equality. The document can be read or downloaded here.
Information about hate crimes and incidents, stops and searches, violence against women, and user satisfaction is published in a report presented to the ‘Force Confidence and Equality Group’ in December 2011. The data currently available covers the period between April – September 2011. The report can be read or downloaded here.
Information about complaints is available on our Professional Standards Department web page.
Information held by our Human Resources Department about the Officers and Staff that we employ can be found here.
We do not currently hold aggregated data in relation to all protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. We hold aggregated data about Gender, Ethnic Origin, Disability, and Age in relation to many of our services and employment practices. Aggregated data about Sexual Orientation and Religion or Belief is held in relation to some of our services and employment practices. After taking advice from the National Trans Police Association in 2008, we decided against collecting data about transgender members of staff or service users. Discussions are currently taking place about whether or not, and how, aggregated data should be gathered in relation to a wider range of services and employment practices, and for all the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. We will consult again about whether or not we should collect data about gender reassignment.
