History of Dyfed-Powys Police
The Force was formed in 1968 with the merger of the four County Constabularies.
With the last great police amalgamations in 1968, the formation of Dyfed-Powys Constabulary included all the Old County (Shire) and Borough Police Forces of Carmarthen, Pembroke, Cardigan, Brecon, Radnor & Montgomery (the last three formerly amalgamated into Mid Wales Police) - some of those forces beginning life as far back as 1829. The name changed to Dyfed-Powys Police in 1974. Now, it is geographically the largest police area in England and Wales.
