Citizen Focus Policing
Gwyn started his police career with South Wales Police in 1982 Swansea before moving the Police Training Centre, Wales as a Sergeant in 1993. A year later he was promoted to Inspector and took up the post of Director of Studies at the Central Planning & Training Unit at Harrogate, North Yorkshire in 1994.
He returned to South Wales Police in 1996 and a year later was promoted to Chief Inspector in varying rolls ranging from support services, event planning and criminal justice to a prolonged period as acting Divisional Commander of the then newly formed Swansea South Division.
In 2000 Gwyn took up a secondment at National Police Training Bramshill where he worked in both the National Police Leadership Faculty and the National Operations Faculty as a Superintendent
Gwyn joined Dyfed Powys Police as the Head of Training & Development, and after a short time as the Head of Human Resources in 2004 he took command of Powys BCU. He was Divisional Commander for five years, which also incorporated two periods in Force Headquarters as Acting Assistant Chief Constable. In February 2010 Gwyn took up his current post at Force Headquarters as Head of Customer Service Delivery with responsibility for Corporate Communication, Citizen Focus Policing Services and Call and Incident Handling.
Gwyn has an upper second class honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Education Leadership & Management. He has a real interest in leadership and diversity management and customer service and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, the Academy of Higher Education and is a Chartered Manager with the Chartered Institute of Management.
During his career Gwyn has spent time working with the South African Police Service as part of the British Aid Programme as well as the Trinidad and Tobego Police Service where he took time to explore his family history.
Gwyn was brought up in Swansea where he still lives Swansea with his wife Nicola and three daughters.
