Deputy Chief Constable
Jackie Roberts began her career in South Wales Police in 1983, serving 21 years in uniform and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) roles. She transferred to Avon and Somerset Constabulary in February 2005, where she was Assistant Chief Constable.
Ms Roberts holds a Bachelors Degree in Police Studies from Glamorgan University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Criminology from Cambridge University.
At Avon and Somerset, she held the Crime and Criminal Justice portfolio from February 2005 - January 2008 and the Protective Services Portfolio from January 2008 - September 2009 covering the 10 key strands of protective services.
At Avon and Somerset, Ms Roberts also had regional responsibility for the Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit, was Chair of Regional Tasking and Co-ordination Group, Chair of the Regional Firearms Group; Chair of Regional Heads of CID, and Chair of the Drugs Pathway Group with Government Offices and other partners. She was also Temporary Deputy Chief Constable from December 2006 – April 2007.
In the South-West, Ms Roberts was ACPO regional lead for Counter Terrorism (leading the initial Counter Terrorism Capabilities work) and Drugs (leading the Street Level Up programme with the Serious Organised Crime Agency) as well as ACPO national representative for the Chief Fire Officers Operations Group.
Within Dyfed-Powys Police, Ms Roberts is responsible for Corporate Services, Organisational Change, Media and Public Relations, Legal Services, Human Resources, Diversity, Professional Standards and Performance.
Ms Roberts replaced Mr Andy Edwards as Deputy Chief Constable, when he was appointed as the first Deputy Chief Constable for the all-Wales collaboration programme. Ms Roberts has made history for the Force as she is the first ever female Chief Officer.
