Carmarthenshire Citizens' Panel

The Carmarthenshire Citizens’ Panel was established in 2001 and is a joint initiative between Dyfed-Powys Police, Carmarthenshire County Council and Hywel Dda Health Board. The Panel is a representative group of approx 1,000 people living in the County of Carmarthenshire who have agreed to offer their views and opinions on services delivered by the partners.

Why do we need a Citizens’ Panel?

The partner organisations need to find out what local people think about their services. If each one did this separately it would prove very costly and would mean that residents would be asked their views again and again. Each of the partners contribute to the costs of the Panel, making it a more cost effective and efficient way for them to hear your views and opinions.

Interested in becoming a member?

Membership is refreshed each year to avoid the panel becoming unrepresentative over time and to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take part.

All responses will then go through the selection process to ensure the Panel represents a cross section of Carmarthenshire's population, allowing us to receive a balanced view of residents' opinions.

What do Panel members have to do? How is the information used?

Panel members are asked to complete 3 or 4 postal questionnaires a year about the services delivered by the partners and responses are used to help influence the planning of local services, how they are provided and issues such as how the partners communicate with local people. Because the Panel is broadly representative of Carmarthenshire population, we can gauge the opinions of residents in each geographical area as well as throughout the County.

After each consultation exercise, Panel members will receive a newsletter detailing the results of the previous consultation and most importantly, how each of the partner organisations intend to respond to the views expressed.
