Ceredigion Dogwatch
Dogwatch is similar to Neighbourhood Watch but for dog
walkers. It encourages dog walkers to report any suspicious, anti-social behaviour or criminal activities
to the police.
It is being set up by the North Ceredigion Neighbourhood Policing Team with the support of local businesses: Ystwyth Veterinary Practice, Bwlch Nant Yr Arian Forest Centre and Café, Burns Animal Nutrition and Pets at Home.
The objective is to provide extra eyes and ears in the Aberystwyth and surrounding area to help reduce crime, the fear of crime and to improve the quality of life for the benefit of everyone who lives and works in the area.

Next meeting: Penparcau Hall at 7.30pm on 09/03/10
While you’re out walking your dog, please keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicles such as transit vans or flat-bed lorries. There have been thefts of metal gates from farm fields and entrances and also thefts from heating oil tanks. If you see anything suspicious, take down or remember as many details as possible and contact the police on 101. Please do not attempt to approach anybody acting suspiciously.
What is Dog Watch?
Ceredigion Dog Watch seeks to bring you together with other dog walkers as you exercise your pets in local street and parks etc. You will be encouraged to report to the police any suspicious behaviour, anti-social or otherwise such as vandalism, graffiti or instances of nuisance as well as more serious crimes.
How does it work?
Membership is free. You will be provided with a free membership pack, which contain details of the scheme and free gifts. You will be encouraged to take notice of what is going on around you and to chat to other dog walking members. If you have any concerns, or hear about any concerns, you should dial 999 if the matter is urgent, or contact Dyfed Powys Police on 101 should you wish to report a non-urgent matter.
What happens when the police are informed?
We will investigate your information or notify our partner agencies, depending on the nature of the problem.
Am I putting myself at risk?
You will not be expected to walk in areas that you are unfamiliar with, or to walk your dog late at night. In addition, we do not expect you to get involved in any confrontational situations.
What are the benefits for me?
By providing extra eyes and ears in the community, you will be helping to make your local community safer for yourself and everyone else who lives in your neighbourhood. In addition, you will be able to specifically benefit from the following in the free membership pack:
- Free ‘blinking’ collar tag
- Free key ring advertising the scheme
- Free fridge magnet advertising the scheme
- Free Poopa Scoop Bags
- Free Burns Nutrition Starter Pack including free food samples and Hessian bag

Watch or require any further information then
