Cardigan Town Neighbourhood Policing Team

Local Priorities

  1. Speeding along Gwbert/Y Ferwig Rd
  2. Anti Social Behaviour in the North part of town (Maesglas, Felin Ban, etc)
  3. Littering and Dog Fouling
  4. Drugs in Cardigan town, Ketamine in particular

What We Have Done

Speeding Gwbert/Ferwig 

  • A number of read your speed exercise have been held on these roads. This initiative is an educational one and involves the help of pupils from the local Secondary School.
  • The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have also been informed of these areas and are conducting regular speed checks. 

Litter Dog/Dog Fouling  

  • Liased with Dog/Community Warden to make him aware of problem in area
  • Area patrolled in company of Community Pride warden highlighting areas of concern.
  • PCSO`s have the power to issue Fixed penalty notices
  • Increased patrols in area
  • In advanced discussions with the council about arranging some free skips to be placed on some estates in town for a day. 

Anti-Social Behaviour 

  • Increased amount of Foot patrols being done in these areas
  • In the past three months two youths have signed Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, which include conditions such as not congregating in public areas after 9:00pm unless in the company of a responsible adult. We have also issued three Verbal warnings, eight Initial letters and three final warning Letters.
  • A number of parents have committed themselves and signed-up to a voluntary parenting course with Tim Teulu  

Drugs

  • A Number of warrants have been held in town.

Who's Who

Inspector Ian Thomas

Collar Number: -

Inspector Ian Thomas is based in Cardigan. He has over twenty-four years service and been stationed in three of the four divisions of Dyfed Powys Police. He says "Ceredigion has an excellent community spirit and we intend to build upon this in order to deliver what the residents of South Ceredigion identify as their needs".

Sergeant Alison Rees

Collar Number: 843

Sergeant Alison Rees was born and brought up in Pembrokeshire. She joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1986 and spent 8 years policing in Bristol before transferring "home" to Dyfed -Powys in 1994. On return to the area she was stationed at Cardigan Police Station, and has served there both as a PC and then Sergeant. In January 2007 she joined the Neighbourhood Policing Team, with responsibility for supervising the team in the Mid and South Ceredigion area.

PC Huw Thomas

Collar Number: 266

PC Huw Thomas has been part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team for Cardigan Town since 2006. He joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 1987 and during that time has served in different stations within the Powys, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion divisions, working in Ceredigion for the past eight years. He has worked in various departments and specialist roles including CID, Tutor Constable, Public Order (PSU), House to House Investigations, Evidence Gatherer and Child Witness Interviewer trained. He spends most of his spare time with his children, he also enjoys sports and is a classic car enthusiast.

PCSO Riccardo Hart

Collar Number: 8021

PCSO Riccardo Hart has been working at Cardigan Police Station since November 2007, covering covering Cardigan Town, Cardigan Rural and Llandysul. He worked previously for the Welsh Assembly in Carmarthen in the Central Finance unit. He grew up in Carmarthenshire and was a pupil at Ammanford Comprehensive School.

How You Can Take Action

Attend neighbourhood policing meetings, report crime and anti-social behaviour, join in community activities and Neighbourhood Watch, and visit your local council for information on community safety schemes in your area.

Neighbourhood Meetings

Discuss community issues with your Neighbourhood Policing Team and have the chance to influence their priorities.

  • 7pm in the Integrated Childrens Centre on 03/12/09

Surgeries

Speak with your local police in confidence.

  • Ridgeway Estate between 10 - 11am on 26/08/09 and 28/10/09
  • Cardigan Town Centre between 11am - 12pm on 26/08/09, 30/09/09 and 28/10/09
  • Maesglas between 3 - 4pm on 26/08/09 and 28/10/09
  • Felin Ban Estate between 10 - 11am on 30/09/09
  • Golwg Y Castell between 3 - 4pm on 30/09/09

To be held on the last Wednesday of every month:

  • 10 – 11am in the south part of town alternating each month between Ridgeway and Golwg Y Castell
  • 12 – 1pm in the town centre
  • 2 – 3pm in the north part of town alternating each month between Maesglas and North Park
