Ceredigion Division

About Ceredigion

Ceredigion is one of the largest rural counties in Wales. It has a strong and expanding Welsh culture, with over 60% of the population Welsh-speaking. Its resident population currently stands at 71,000 but an estimated 850,000 visitors per summer season boost this figure annually. In addition the county hosts two universities, one at Aberystwyth and the other at Lampeter. These establishments cater for some 10,000 students each year.

The geographical layout of the division comprises of three large centres of population with Aberystwyth in the north, Lampeter at the eastern end and Cardigan in the south. The remainder is made up of towns and villages scattered along the main road systems within the county and large expanses of sparsely populated rural areas.

Ceredigion is a safe place to live, work and visit when compared to other similar areas within the United Kingdom. The key agencies that work within the county have a joint responsibility to ensure this continues by reducing crime and the fear of crime and have joined forces with the police to work in partnership. This has resulted in a three year Community Safety Strategy which we are committed to deliver by working together.
