Carmarthen Town

To provide ongoing high visibility patrols within Carmarthen Town shopping areas

    06/10/11 - We have ensured that foot patrols are conducted during peak periods and at weekends. Meetings are held with the Town Council on a regular basis to identify and plan for special events within the shopping areas eg. Food fairs and arts and crafts displays. Visits have been conducted to St Catherines Walk and Merlins Walk shopping areas and close liason is maintained with the management teams to ensure that late night shopping and other initiatives are adequately policed. The Christmas programme of events and activities within the Town Centre is currently being finalised and high visibilty patrols will be conducted at the relevant time periods to ensure the safety of the public and deter crime from taking place.

Tackle youth related Anti Social Behaviour in Carmarthen Town area

    06/10/11 - The Police Community Safety Officers have visited local youth groups such as Dr Mz’s and also The Rathbone project. Talks have been conducted with the young people and relationships with them have been developed.
    Dyfed-Powys Police Schools Liaison Officers deliver lessons a rolling programme of sessions under the heading of Social Behaviour and The Community to children and young people between the ages of 5-16 which compliment the PSHE scheme of work within schools.  The programme can be viewed at www.schoolbeat.org
    Patrols have been conducted at specific time periods when problems may occur. These have included GCSE and A level results nights and Freshers Fair week at Trinity St Davids University.

    06/10/11 - Meetings have been held with the The Traffic Management Team at Carmarthenshire County Council. As a result, bollards have been installed across the concourse at the front of the castle wall to prevent parking in this area. New signage has been approved and erected to remind motorists of their responsibilities in respect of parking on Notts Square.
    Shopkeepers in the area have been handed warning notices reminding them and their staff of the parking regulations.
    Regular patrols have been conducted and fixed penalty notices issued to drivers who have contravened the parking restrictions.

  • PACT Meetings

    The Carmarthen Town Neighbourhood Police Team have held three PACT meetings in February 2011. Attendance figures have been below extremely low. Please be aware that details of future meetings will be listed on this website and advertised in the local press and radio.

Inspector Steve Lee 2032

  • Steve Lee

    Inspector Steve Lee joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 1996 having worked in the public service industry for 19 years. He served as a PC in Ammanford and Kidwelly police stations before becoming a sergeant. He was stationed at Llanelli, Lampeter and St. Clears before taking up his current role of Inspector based in the Carmarthen Rural Section. He said: “I am a local resident and I have found that knowing the local community has helped me identify and deal with the concerns and issues within my section. I look forward to furthering the ties already made with the local communities and our partner agencies, with the intention of reducing crime and instances of anti-social behaviour whilst developing the profile of my neighbourhood policing team”.

Sergeant Mark McSweeney 943

  • Mark McSweeney

    Sergeant Mark McSweeney has been with Dyfed Powys Police for the last two years, where he is currently working with the neighbourhood policing teams across the Carmarthen Area, including Carmarthen Town, Carmarthen North, Carmarthen West, Llangunnor and St Ishmaels.  Before moving to Dyfed Powys, he served 8 years with the Metropolitan Police in London where he also worked as a Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant.

PC Carl Mann 1030

  • PC Carl Mann joined the team in January 2009. He previously worked for Thames Valley Police from 1992, working from High Wycome. He covered rural and town beats before becoming a Tutor Constable. He joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 2001, working in Haverfordwest and Whitland before transferring to Carmarthen. He was born in Swansea and moved to St. Clears in 1971 where his family remained when he joined Thames Valley Police. His hobbies are motorcycling and hill walking in Britain and Nepal. He said, “What I like most about neighbourhood policing is helping the community and the elderly. I also enjoy assisting core shift officers with any crime and other enquiries need to complete any incidents”

PC Ian Thomas 732

  • PC Ian Thomas joined the Neighbourhood Policing Team in February 2008.  He has previously worked at Pembroke Dock and Fishguard before becoming the force’s Physical Trainer and Self Defence Trainer, a position he held for ten years. Although originally from Llanelli, he has lived in Carmarthen for many years and his children were schooled locally. He is a keen cyclist and uses his bike to keep fit and to travel to work. He said, “Having been in a non operational role for a long time, it is refreshing to get back on the beat and I enjoy getting out and meeting people. There is an emphasis on partnership working within the team and with my training experience I enjoy networking with other agencies and adopting a problem solving approach.”

PCSO Bethan Hodgkinson 8030

  • Bethan Hodgkinson

    PCSO Bethan Hodgkinson is originally from North Wales. She first moved to Carmarthen in September 2002 to attend Trinity College as a Theatre, Music and Media Studies student. She graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Her career for Dyfed-Powys Police started in December 2005 where she worked as a receptionist in Police Headquarters and in May 2006 realized her true passion of being out in the community and solving local community issues where she joined as a PCSO in May 2006.
