Reduce anti social behaviour in town during days and evenings by increased foot patrols in the area

    The Neighborhood Policing Team is dedicated in ensuring that high visibility patrols in key locations at relevant times are provided.

    02/04/2012 - ASB calls were reduced in identified Hot spot areas.

    05/03/2012 - Maintain High Visibility foot patrols with view to deterring and detecting incidents of criminal damage and Anti Social Behaviour in Hay town area.

    13/02/2012 - Targeted January Priority--During January, foot patrols by Pc221 Thomas Hay NMT officer, were carried out with the intent to decrease ASB in identified hotspots, to deter and detect incidents of graffiti, damage and other crime and to give public reassurance by visible and approachable patrols.
    Targeted January Priority--An escalating neighbourhood dispute (5 reports at beginning of month) was targeted by Hay NMT and Partnership agencies, with joint assessment and consultation with all the relevant parties. There have been no repeat calls since and Mediation services (Resolve Cymru) are now involved.
     
    Busy month with 147 reported incidents in the Hay section dealt with by officers from Hay and Brecon.
    Decrease in monthly crime with 19 reported crimes ( inc 4 in Talgarth area)
    3 men from Cardiff area, arrested and charged for theft and burglary. Quad bike stolen from Clyro and power tools stolen from Velindre were recovered.
    Youth offender charged with Assault with a weapon and damages to premises and vehicle.
    Youth offender charged with theft from Hay on Wye Community Centre.
    4 officers injured (1 requiring surgery) during a violent attack whilst executing a Sec135 Mental Health Act warrant in Hay on Wye. 
    Police appealed for information relating to graffiti in Oxford road Bus shelters, damage to fencing at the Warren and slashed car tyres at Kilverts View Clyro.

Carry out patrols and checks to deter and detect travelling criminals engaged in rural crime.

    The Neighbourhood Policing Team continually Engage with the community by conducting high visibility patrols in rural areas to provide reassurance and prevent crime.

    03/04/2012 - The Mid-Wales Roads Policing Unit, Unmarked Police Vehicles and Neighbourhood Policing Team Officers continue to work together to ensure that all rural areas are regularly patrolled to target and prevent crime.

    I joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 1997 and previously served in Llanelli and in Crosshands as a Traffic Officer, before, moving to Powys as custody Sergeant in Newtown. I have now undertaken the role of Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and work alongside my colleague Sergeant Mal James.

    I am committed to ensuring the success of the Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire, where I will be tackling the issues affecting local communities. This important work will be delivered along with partnership agencies, which will ensure that the area remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit in England and Wales.

    We have a highly-professional Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire and I am confident that we have the skills and excellent community relationships to achieve outstanding results.

Sergeant Mal James 206

    I joined Dyfed-Powys Police force in 1986, being stationed in Llanelli. Other stations worked at include Burry Port, Tenby, Llandrindod Wells and Hay-On-Wye. I came to Brecon in 1991 and was promoted to Sgt in 2007. I have now undertaken the role of Strategic Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and will work alongside my colleague Sergeant Adele Pitt. This is a new role that will provide support to the existing Neighbourhood Management Teams within Breconshire. Being a local person who was educated at Brecon High School and Swansea University. I am keen to work with the communities of Breconshire and provide a service that addresses the issues that have been identified as being of concern to each community. This will be achieved with the support of our partners with whom we have already built an excellent working relationship.

PC Fean Thomas 221

  • PC Fean Thomas has over twenty years’ service, working in North Yorkshire and Essex police before transferring to Dyfed Powys in January 2001. He joined Hay on Wye in November 2001, and became the beat manager in July 2006. He has an additional role as a Wildlife and Environmental Crime Officer and has had specialised training in wildlife and environmental crime. He enjoys working in this busy and popular area - Hay is one of the most visited places by tourists in Wales and is at times very cosmopolitan. He lives on his patch and enjoys the quality environment.

PCSO Simon Beaton 8076

  • Simon joined Dyfed Powys Police Force in March 2007. He enjoys working within the community and dealing with local problems. He is responsible for both Crickhowell and Hay-on-Wye Sections.
