General Anti-Social Behaviour in and around Talgarth and surrounding areas

    The Neighbourhood Management Team continue to provide impromptu Licensed premises visits which enable officers to monitor and deal with any disorder, drug use or licensing issues.

    17/05/2012 - High visibility Police Patrols, both on foot and in a marked police vehicle have been conducted within the Neighbourhood area, when able, during the month of April. This has clearly been appreciated by the residents, resulting in positive feedback, when stopped and spoken to. These patrols are to remain as part of this month’s priorities for the Neighbourhood area.

    The Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working together with other partnership agencies, namely PCC Play Development Officers in relation to the reported problems within the Gwernyfed Estates. Suitable arrangements have been put in place for the Neighbourhood Policing Team to attend at the Play Scheme that is currently being run on the estate, with a view of monitoring and dealing with any incidents / issues arising.

    03/04/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team officers continue to provide high visibility patrols in the Talgarth areas. This allows officers to engage with community members and residents. Officers also work in partnership with the housing officer and conduct joint foot patrols on the estates.

    08/02/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to offer High Visibility Patrols in the area in order to monitor any Anti Social Behaviour problems as well as providing impromptu Licensed premises visits which enable officers to monitor and deal with any disorder, drug use or licensing issues.

General Road Traffic Issues – Parking and Obstruction

    A partnership approach is being used in an attempt to alleviate the Parking issues in and around the Cattle Mart on market days. This work is ongoing and partners involved are Town Councillors, County Councillors, Neighbourhood Policing Team and Management from PCC Parking Department.  

    17/05/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work closely with The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit who continue to actively patrol within the Neighbourhood area. Parking and Obstruction priorities have been discussed with Powys County Council enforcement officers who have taken on the responsibility for the management and enforcement of on-street parking from the Police and Traffic Wardens. This has resulted in several issues being resolved and regular patrols/presence from Enforcement Officers within the Neighbourhood Area.

    03/04/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work closely with The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit who actively patrol in the Neighbourhood area. Work is currently on-going with PCC Highways Department in relation to arranging site meetings and a placement bid for Speed Indicator Device (SID) for the village of Trefecca.

    08/02/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to work closely with the Mid Wales Roads  Policing Unit who actively patrol in the Neighbourhood with 31 tickets issued during January in relation to Excess Speed Prosecutions.

    Parking and Obstruction issues continue to be monitored with The Neighbourhood Policing Team and Powys County Council working in partnership to address these issues.

  • Pcso 8076 Simon Beaton has recently joined the Team and will be responsible for patrolling in both Hay-on-Wye and Crickhowell Sections. He is an experienced officer and has worked in Brecon Town for the last 5 years. He is looking forward to the challenge of working in a new area and making excellent community contacts and using these to address local issues.     Insp Reed joined Dyfed-Powys Police force in 1992. He is committed to working with the communities of Breconshire.

    I joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 1997 and previously served in Llanelli and in Crosshands as a Traffic Officer, before, moving to Powys as custody Sergeant in Newtown. I have now undertaken the role of Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and work alongside my colleague Sergeant Mal James.

    I am committed to ensuring the success of the Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire, where I will be tackling the issues affecting local communities. This important work will be delivered along with partnership agencies, which will ensure that the area remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit in England and Wales.

    We have a highly-professional Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire and I am confident that we have the skills and excellent community relationships to achieve outstanding results.

    I joined Dyfed-Powys Police force in 1986, being stationed in Llanelli. Other stations worked at include Burry Port, Tenby, Llandrindod Wells and Hay-On-Wye. I came to Brecon in 1991 and was promoted to Sgt in 2007. I have now undertaken the role of Strategic Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and will work alongside my colleague Sergeant Adele Pitt. This is a new role that will provide support to the existing Neighbourhood Management Teams within Breconshire. Being a local person who was educated at Brecon High School and Swansea University. I am keen to work with the communities of Breconshire and provide a service that addresses the issues that have been identified as being of concern to each community. This will be achieved with the support of our partners with whom we have already built an excellent working relationship.

PC Tommy Swales 119

  • PC Tommy Swales is the Neighbourhood Police Local Beat Manager for Talgarth.  He has been a police officer since 1996, working in Brecon and Hay on Wye.  He was previously as a carpenter and joiner, working mainly in the London area and also further afield including a year spent in the USA. He has captained Dyfed-Powys Police at football and golf, drawing on earlier experience as a keen sportsman.  He represented his home county, Yorkshire in football, cricket, athletics and swimming and played football at a higher level for Darlington FC. He has lived locally since 1997, and is married with two children; his wife is also a police officer.  He said: “I am most looking forward to working closely with my local community and want to reduce the fear of crime and improve people’s quality of life. I believe that my years as a local police officer will assist me greatly. I enjoy talking to the local community and I find being out and about speaking to people one of the most rewarding aspects of the role.”

  • Simon joined Dyfed Powys Police Force in March 2007. He enjoys working within the community and dealing with local problems. He is responsible for both Crickhowell and Hay-on-Wye Sections.
