15/01/2012 - In order to address issues of Speeding in the Ystradgynlais area the Mid-Wales Roads Policing Unit continue to actively patrol throughout the area, with specific areas of concern being included as part of their patrol Strategy Plan.

20/12/2011 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team is still waiting for data in relation to the speed of vehicles along the A4067 Ynyswen / Penycae, and following receipt and analysis of this data, consideration will be given for the siting of the portable Speed Indication Device. In the meantime, the Neighbourhood Policing Team and   Roads Policing Unit will continue monitoring/enforcement in the area.

13/11/2011 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working in partnership with Powys County Council and have requested Speed monitoring strips for the A4067 Ynyswen / Penycae area.  Officers will also be working closely with The Mid-Wales Roads Policing Team (RPU) in the coming weeks, monitoring and enforcing speed with a view to establishing the need for the installation of a portable Speed Indication Device, following ongoing complaints of the speed of vehicles using this stretch of road.

The Neighbourhood Management Team (NMT) continues to work closely with Youth Services in an attempt to engage with youngsters on the Ynyswen Estate. Part of the youth annoyance problem is due to a lack of facilities and isolation from other local facilities i.e. youth club facilities in Ystradgynlais.

    15/01/2012

    • The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to provide high visibility patrols and reassurance by engaging with members of the community to identify and address issues of concern. Local councillors have been involved in a joint “Walkabout” initiative on the estates which is extremely effective in identifying and solving problems together. This approach will continue over the coming months.
    • The Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased patrols throughout December to combat the increase in oil thefts from residential dwellings and community buildings such as the Caehopkin Scout hut.

20/12/2011 - There have been no calls in relation to youth annoyance in Ynyswen during the month of November and feedback from the latest Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting held on 6th December ‘11 at Penycae CP School indicates that the increased high visibility patrols and youth interaction in the area has had a positive impact on the previously reported issues in the area.

13/11/2011 - Following recent complaints of minor Anti -Social Behaviour (ASB) on the Ynyswen estate attributed to a younger element living on the estate, the Neighbourhood Policing Team,  will be actively engaging with the youngsters and their families to educate this younger element in what is appropriate behaviour.

Past Priorities

  • Following a spate of thefts from unattended vehicles in the Ystradfellte area an Ad-Hoc operation was set up. This has resulted in two males from the Merthyr area being arrested. Property was also recovered that had been stolen from a family of German Tourists. Despite (or possibly because of) their experience they have expressed their desire to return to Wales in the future.
