Ystradgynlais Town

General Anti-Social Behaviour issues with youths in the town and surrounding areas will also continue to be monitored

    The Neighbourhood Management Team (NMT) Officers continue with high visibility patrols to deter and tackle anti-social behaviour and youths drinking.

    • Large crowds gathered for the Annual Santa Parade through the town and the Neighbourhood Policing Team provided additional support by assisting with the increased volume of people and traffic at the event. This ensured that the event passed without any issues or concerns. The Neighbourhood Policing Team members were also present and provided similar support and assistance at the Mary Llwyd Parade throughout the Swansea Valley.
    • The Neighbourhood Policing Team is working in partnership with members of Gurnos residents association in order to reduce incidents of damage in the area. These issues and concerns have also been featured in local Newspapers.

    • The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to provide high visibility patrols in and around the town to address issues of ant-social behaviour.
    • The Steal and Be Banned (S.A.B.B) Scheme for shops in Ystradgynlais and the surrounding area was launched on 2nd December 2011. This scheme has been welcomed by traders and proved to be very successful in other areas.
    • PC 233 Griffiths has written an article for Tawe Talk Magazine regarding drugs misuse and support in the community.
    • Local officers continue to be involved in partnership working with Maes Y Derwen School, to identify and deal with issues of concern.
    • The Neighboutrhood Policing Team was present at the opening of the new Tesco store at Glanrhyd, where good links have been forged with management regarding the possibility of using the store for surgeries etc.

    • Ystradgynlais Neighbourhood Policing Team is currently in the process of developing a Steal and Be Banned scheme in the town. The scheme will reduce the amount of theft related crime within the retail shops in the town. This initiative has been welcomed by traders in the town and already 16 shops have signed up to the scheme.
    • Ystradgynlais Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to be involved in partnership working with Maes Y Derwen School, and is trying to set up a small office which can be used as a point of contact.
    • Whilst out on foot patrols the Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working closely with youths who congregate around the town in an attempt to boost interaction with the local youth club and increase interest and attendance.

  • The Neighbourhood Management Team have set up a number of operations over the busy August holiday in an attempt to reduce the number of incidents of thefts from unattended vehicles parked at local beauty spots.  These patrols have been successful as there has been a significant reduction in the number of reported crimes of this sort.
     
    The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit continues to actively patrol the Ystadgynlais area. In August a total of 8 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for Speeding offences
     
    The Neighbourhood Management Team is also planning a number of speeding operations with local schools in order to educate both drivers and pupils on the dangers of speeding near to school premises.

    Inspector Helen Hill has been a police officer for 20 years. She initially joined the Metropolitan Police and for the past 14 years has worked for Dyfed Powys Police.

    Her initial career was spent serving as both a Constable and Sergeant in Carmarthenshire; however for the past 5 years she has worked within Powys.  She lives in Llanelli with her husband and 2 young children.

  • Rod Bowen

    I joined Dyfed Powys Police in April 1985 and have served in the county of Powys at Brecon, Newtown and Ystradgynlais Police Stations. I have worked within the Road Traffic Department, as a Custody Sergeant and as a Response Sergeant.

    I have now undertaken the role of Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and will work alongside my colleague Sergeant Adele Pitt. This is a new role that will provide support to the existing Neighbourhood Management Teams within Breconshire.

    Being a local person who was educated at Brecon High School I am keen to work with the communities of Breconshire and provide a service that addresses the issues that have been identified as being of concern to each community. This will be achieved with the support of our partners with whom we have already built an excellent working relationship.

  • Adele Pitt

    I joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 1997 and previously served in Llanelli and in Crosshands as a Traffic Officer, before, moving to Powys as custody Sergeant in Newtown. I have now undertaken the role of Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and work alongside my colleague Sergeant Rod Bowen.

    I am committed to ensuring the success of the Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire, where I will be tackling the issues affecting local communities. This important work will be delivered along with partnership agencies, which will ensure that the area remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit in England and Wales.

    We have a highly-professional Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire and I am confident that we have the skills and excellent community relationships to achieve outstanding results.

PC Owen Griffiths 233

  • PC Owen Griffiths has been in the police service since 2002. He has been involved in Neighbourhood Policing since the team was established, working in Brecon and Ystradgynlais before being appointed as Local Beat Manager in 2006. He is a keen actor and has appeared in TV shows such as Pobl y Cwm and Doctor Who, and has performed his own show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

  • PCSO Dan Garnell has been in his current role as a PCSO since May 2006. Previously he has served in the Royal Navy and with Avon and Somerset Police as a custody officer.
