A new series of Neighbourhood Policing Surgeries have been Set up in the Ystradgynlais area. A member of Ystradgynlais Town Neighbourhood Policing Team will be at Coelbren Welfare Hall at 10.30 am on every Wednesday and at Abercraf Welfare Hall every Thursday at 11am.

The Neighbourhood Management Team (NMT) Officers continue with high visibility patrols to deter and tackle anti-social behaviour and youths drinking.
17/05/2012 - In order to address Anti-Social Behaviour issues the Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to provide regular High Visibility patrols in “Hot Spot” locations. Recent damage had been caused to Gurnos Bus shelter which has now been repaired with Perspex glass. Regular patrols are now being made in the area to deter further damage.
Ystradgynlais Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work in partnership with a number of agencies to address issues that have arisen in and around Maesydderwen Comprehensive School. Officers are also in consultation with the Head teacher with a view to holding police surgeries in the new building from September.
Ystradgynlais town Neighbourhood Policing Team are in the process of working in partnership with the local Fire Brigade to arrange Fire awareness presentations with local schools and youth groups following a series of grass fires started in the area recently.
08/05/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team have undertaken targeted patrols at pertinent times, mainly Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. This has involved speaking to youths in the area, moving them on after giving suitable advice and confiscating any alcohol found on those underage. Anti Social Behaviour referrals have also been submitted if relevant. In response to ongoing complaints from the New Tesco store in relation to youths congregating in the car park and causing Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) both in the car park and also spilling out into the immediate areas surrounding the car park, a problem profile has been created which involves regular patrols and engagement with staff at Tesco and youths in the area. The Neighbourhood Policing Team is also working in partnership with Local Councillors and Tesco to identify issues that can be addressed by the store that will assist in alleviating the problems.
03/04/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team officers continue to provide high visibility patrols in order to address Anti-Social Behaviour issues. Regular foot patrols allow officers to engage with community members and residents. Officers also patrol in and around school grounds and engage with children seen around the area.

17/05/2012 - The Mid-Wales Roads Policing Unit continues to actively patrol in the Neighbourhood area.
08/05/2012 - The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work closely with The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit who actively patrol in the Neighbourhood area. A range of offences are targeted which not only include speeding but drink drivers, construction and use offences, Road traffic collisions/ Road Safety issues and all criminal offences.
03/04/2012 - In order to address issues of Speeding in the Ystradgynlais area the Mid-Wales Roads Policing Unit continue to actively patrol throughout the area, with specific areas of concern being included as part of their patrol Strategy Plan. A total of 6 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN’s) were issued in February for speeding in the Neighbourhood Area.

Sergeant Adele Pitt 960
I joined Dyfed-Powys Police in 1997 and previously served in Llanelli and in Crosshands as a Traffic Officer, before, moving to Powys as custody Sergeant in Newtown. I have now undertaken the role of Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and work alongside my colleague Sergeant Mal James.
I am committed to ensuring the success of the Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire, where I will be tackling the issues affecting local communities. This important work will be delivered along with partnership agencies, which will ensure that the area remains one of the safest places to live, work and visit in England and Wales.
We have a highly-professional Neighbourhood Management Team in Breconshire and I am confident that we have the skills and excellent community relationships to achieve outstanding results.
Sergeant Mal James 206
I joined Dyfed-Powys Police force in 1986, being stationed in Llanelli. Other stations worked at include Burry Port, Tenby, Llandrindod Wells and Hay-On-Wye. I came to Brecon in 1991 and was promoted to Sgt in 2007. I have now undertaken the role of Strategic Neighbourhood Management Sergeant for Breconshire and will work alongside my colleague Sergeant Adele Pitt. This is a new role that will provide support to the existing Neighbourhood Management Teams within Breconshire. Being a local person who was educated at Brecon High School and Swansea University. I am keen to work with the communities of Breconshire and provide a service that addresses the issues that have been identified as being of concern to each community. This will be achieved with the support of our partners with whom we have already built an excellent working relationship.
PC Owen Griffiths 233
PC Owen Griffiths has been in the police service since 2002. He has been involved in Neighbourhood Policing since the team was established, working in Brecon and Ystradgynlais before being appointed as Local Beat Manager in 2006. He is a keen actor and has appeared in TV shows such as Pobl y Cwm and Doctor Who, and has performed his own show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
PCSO Dan Garnell 8031
PCSO Dan Garnell has been in his current role as a PCSO since May 2006. Previously he has served in the Royal Navy and with Avon and Somerset Police as a custody officer.
PCSO Adam Jones 8032
I joined Dyfed-Powys police in November 2011, and have been working in Ystradgynlais as a PCSO since January 2012. After finishing school, I went on to study a Police Sciences degree at Glamorgan University where I left after a year due to my successful application to join Dyfed-Powys Police. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, as well as playing the guitar, bass and piano. I was born and raised in Bridgend and am thoroughly enjoying getting to know the area in and around Ystradgynlais as well as all its friendly residence.
