Make Criminals Pay
Dyfed Powys Police and the Dyfed Powys Local Criminal Justice Board are asking for people’s help to make criminals pay.
This joint campaign aims to raise awareness among local people of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
The act allows law enforcement agencies to take cash and assets from criminals ensuring they do not benefit financially from their crimes.
A proportion of this money is then returned to the communities to improve the places where we live under various schemes including ‘Community Cashback’.
The campaign includes adverts on buses and in local publications.
Detective Inspector Richard Hopkin, said: “Criminals sometimes see prison or community sentences as an occupational hazard. However they don’t like losing their house, car or nice TV.
“POCA helps us ensure that these people do not benefit from their crimes and thus do not become role models for young people who see them with expensive items that others cannot afford.
“The campaign is aimed at getting people to tell us if they know someone who is living off the proceeds of their crime.
“If you are aware of someone who has expensive goods and is living beyond their means, ask yourself how are they affording it and if you believe it maybe due to the proceeds of crime let us know.”
Anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
