Update on Police Operation at Chevron Oil Refinery

Friday 3rd June 17:00hrs

Chief Superintendent Dean Richards, of Dyfed Powys Police, said “This afternoon, specialist police teams will be recovering the bodies of those killed in the explosion at the Chevron Oil Refinery in Pembrokeshire. Due to the nature of the incident scene this will be a slow and methodical process.

 “A Home office Pathologist is also currently at the scene and the Pembrokeshire coroner has been informed.

“While, we are currently the primacy investigating agency this is normal procedure for an incident of this type and we are continuing to work closely with our partners the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and other agencies.

“We can also confirm tonight that the four people killed in the explosion and the one person seriously injured - who is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital - are all local to Pembrokeshire and that one of the deceased was a female. 

“Police family liaision officers are supporting the families of the deceased and injured, and the media are kindly asked to respect the privacy of all the families affected by this incident at this difficult time.”
