Felinfoel families unite to transform their community
Families from Felinfoel have been continuing with their work in trying to transform their community by recently holding a family day of fun and games for the local children.
The Danybanc and Llundain Fach Parents group was established a year ago, and in the past twelve months it’s regularly organised yoga classes, children and family events as well as days out. Its aim is to develop a sense of community and encourage residents to take part in activities, try new things and learn new skills.
PC Steve Kettle joined in the fun, using the opportunity not only to support the group, but also to promote the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and offer general crime prevention advice.
"Thanks to the incentivisation fund I’ve been able to secure some funding to help get some crime prevention materials,” he said. “The fund is made up of money which is recovered from criminals’ proceeds of crime and is ploughed back to help communities.
“It was a great day, the best turn out we’ve had for a Neighbourhood Watch event so far,” said PC Kettle.
“A lot of families have signed up to the Neighbourhood Watch scheme and they’ve been given home security products.
“It’s just been great to see the community all coming together to support the group and Neighbourhood Watch, which us an important asset for us in the fight against crime.”
Neighbourhood Watch is a community led scheme which works with the police in Felinfoel. It’s ethos is to create a community that caress and works together to make the area a better place to live.
Residents have a specialised knowledge of the community; and by letting the police know of anything suspicious, they help reduce the opportunity for crime to occur.
The family fun day was also supported by Dominos Pizza.
