Police investigate cannabis production in Burry Port

Police have started an investigation after discovering a cannabis factory at a rental property in Springfield Terrace, Burry Port.

Officers went to the house after a neighbouring landlord phoned to complain of flooding at the property.

A search of the house uncovered 400 cannabis plants.

“Inquiries are ongoing at the moment to track down the person who’d been renting this property,” said Detective Inspector Gary Phillips. “But it’s worth reminding landlords to check the credentials of the people to whom they rent their property.

“Cannabis cultivation can cause damage to buildings, both to the structure and the electrics. The interference is so much so that it does cause a significant fire risk. So it’s worth landlords paying attention to a few simple guidelines.

“Cannabis factories can be short or long term lettings and the initial appearance of being a small family, will quickly revert to an individual living alone.

“There’ll be a lack of routine, so no children or people working or any regular times when people come and go but usually an isolated male who will rarely go out of the address.

“There may be regular electrical noises, such as soft motors or a small generator running coming from the address, and you may notice different smells coming from the area surrounding the property.

“The majority of curtains at the property will always be drawn, and some windows may be permanently open, even in cold weather.

“Another thing to watch for are rental payments often made in cash.

“If you have your suspicions, then please contact police by calling 101.”
