Spate of sheep thefts in Powys leads to warning

Although one of the safest counties in the Country a series of sheep thefts across Radnorshire had led to police increasing their patrols and utilising new technologies such as SMARTWATER and automatic number plate readers to detect offenders.

All animal movements are regulated and police will be checking animal movement documents as part of these patrols.

Since June there have been six separate cases of sheep being taken, with a total number of 310 being stolen in the Llandrindod Wells and Builth areas leading to the loss of thousands of pounds worth of stock.

“If anyone has any information on sheep thefts, they can contact us at Llandrindod Wells on 101,” said Neighbourhood officer Ailsa Lawton. “We need everyone in the County to be vigilant and to report to us anything which they think is suspicious.”

Farmwatch schemes are also operated across the  Dyfed Powys Police force area. For more information on how to be a part of one, please call 101 and ask for your neighbourhood team or e mail them at: ContactCentre@Dyfed-Powys.pnn.police.uk
