Diesel Theft Knighton

Overnight on Tuesday 6th December 2011 persons unknown have stolen up to 500 litres of diesel from a tank in an isolated location at Rhos Y Meirch near Knighton. It is likely that a vehicle was used together with pumps and piping to access this fuel. As winter sets in and with the cost of fuel remaining high, oil tanks such as this one have become a target for thieves.

“All businesses and farms, or anyone with their own fuel stores, are asked to be extra vigilant and to ensure that they have taken maximum precautions to protect their vehicles and fuel. Try and make security awareness a part of the working day. There is much that can be done to protect your property such as fixing motion sensor lights; ensuring that you have quality locks for diesel storage tanks and lockable caps with anti-siphon protection. Hide your oil tank so you're not a target for thieves in the first place: if they can't see it, then they won't know it's there. Plant shrubs or install fences to conceal your tank from view - especially if you live close to the road. If your property is more secluded, deter thieves from entering your property by installing lockable gates and maintaining any perimeter fencing. Check your tank's oil levels on a regular basis. Be extra vigilant of tankers or large vehicles close to your property. Note down any registration numbers of vehicles you think look suspicious and report them to the police. Where possible, install security lighting that covers your tank and the immediate surrounding area. If your tank is openly accessible to all, consider moving it to an area or building where it is better protected."
