Youth project in Presteigne receives £500 grant from Dyfed Powys Police

A grant of £500 has been presented to the Presteigne Youth Project to help with the running costs of its facility in Hereford Street.

The money has come from Dyfed Powys Police’s Incentivisation Fund. This fund is made up of money that’s been recovered as proceeds of crime from convicted criminals, which is then ploughed it back into our local communities.

The Presteigne Youth Project is a volunteer run organisation that has taken a lease on the Old School in Hereford Street and opened a Youth Centre.

Since it opened in September, the project has run every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7pm until 9pm.

“This project is such a worthwhile recipient of money from this fund as it’s all about putting the money made from crime back into the community for the good of the community,” said PC Trish Dixon from the local neighbourhood management team in Presteigne.  “The project offers regular activities on two nights a week and also runs courses and trips to places of interest.

“And it’s funded entirely from donations raised locally and from grants. Which is why grants like this are so important.”

And those behind the project are glad of the support.

“We are all so extremely grateful,” said  Project Chairman James Tennant-Eyles. “It will be of vital assistance in running the project.

“We are a volunteer organisation and are very dependant on our volunteer youth workers who supervise the sessions, and who I thank for their wonderful support.

“But we are always looking for more volunteers. So if anyone is interested in giving an hour or so a week please get in touch with me on 01544 267363.”
