Crime pays for Skate Park initiative!

It’s not everyday that you can say crime pays – but thanks to the Dyfed-Powys Police Incentivisation Fund, a local youth programme has received £1,000.
The cash, which paid towards a design and construction project at Cardigan Skate Park, was obtained as a result of Police successfully seizing and confiscating criminal assets. Small World Theatre put together the initiative, which will work with skate park users and young people Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEETS).
In addition to service users, the project will include pupil referral services, youth workers and local businesses to design and construct a shelter/seating area at the skate park in Cardigan.
The project will be participant-led, to enable everyone’s views and ideas to be shared and given feedback equally. The project has been specifically designed to bring different sectors of Cardigan together in a constructive, creative and developmental way – and therefore strengthen community cohesion. Information and contact details for the project are available on Small World Theatre's website, smallworld.org.uk.
Supported by European Social Fund via WCVA, Arts Council of Wales and Dyfed-Powys Police, this initiative provides participants an opportunity to gain a qualification, and may ultimately provide an alternative route to education and employment.
Cardigan Sergeant Alison Rees said: “This use of seized funds highlights Dyfed-Powys Police’s commitment to catch criminals, bring them to book and support social cohesion projects.
“Providing young adults with the opportunity to take part in constructive activities and improve their social skills is an excellent example of responsible community engagement – and police in Ceredigion are delighted to support this. In addition, having a direct input into the entire process from the outset will create a sense of ownership and pride in the collective achievement.”
