Officers clamp down on underage drinking
Officers from Welshpool Neighbourhood Policing Team seized alcohol from a group of youngsters who’d gone unaccompanied to a local restaurant and taken their own alcohol with them.
The alcohol was seized on Friday 3rd February. The teenagers had planned to drink the alcohol in the restaurant.
“They had brought alcohol ranging from bottled larger to vodka,” said licensing officer Nicola Davies. “And it had to be taken from a total of eight youths who were only aged 15 and 16 years.
“We’ve received many reports of youths consuming their own alcohol on these premises and then causing an anti-social nuisance in the town.
“We have given the licence holder for the premises a warning and the Licensing Authority has been informed. The details of the youngsters involved has been shared with the relevant authorities.
“This is a warning to other establishments who may think it’s acceptable to break the law in this way. We are watching and we will take action. And while the licensee has only had a warning on this occasion, the penalties will be much more severe if they are caught again.”
