Police welcome guilty verdict in Gill court case
Officers who investigated claims of fraud and sexual assaults committed by a husband and wife against women concerned they had cancer have today welcomed the guilty verdicts returned by a jury.
Reginald Gill was found guilty of three sexual assaults, six assaults by penetration and two counts of fraud. His wife Leila Gill was found guilty of one count of sexual assault and one of fraud.
“Mr & Mrs Gill falsely claimed that they could diagnose and treat cancer,” said Detective Inspector Steve Cockwell. “They used this to sexually assault the two victims and for financial gain.
“The victims have displayed extreme courage in reporting this matter and by giving evidence in court and have exposed Mr and Mrs Gill as fraudulent practitioners of alternative medicine.
“Thankfully a case like this is extremely rare in Dyfed Powys, but any claims of sexual assault are taken extremely seriously by the force and investigated fully.
“I hope today’s positive outcome encourages others who have been victims of serious crimes to come forward to us and make us aware.”
