On your bike!

Some people will do anything for charity, but an Officer from Dyfed-Powys Police is set to go the extra mile – 400 miles in fact!

On St David’s Day, PC Mel Gaul and colleagues from the Suffolk Constabulary have arranged an event for partners and colleagues to meet at Aberystwyth Police station and enjoy a fundraising opportunity and network over a coffee and a cake!

Funds raised will go towards supporting the 2012 ‘Bobby-on-a-Bike’ coast-to-coast cycle ride, in aid of local RNLI stations, which is taking place on 27 May 2012.

Bobby on a Bike is a group of Police cyclists who have raised in excess of £80,000 in over 10 years of charity cycle rides in the UK, US and Scandinavia.

Last years ride from the east coast to Borth, raised more than £19,000 for Cancer Research and the RNLI.

To help their cause, the group enjoys excellent sponsorship in Aberystwyth from Cambrian Tyres and Ty Nant water, complimented by several additional companies for the non-Wales events.

Mel, who will be repeating last year’s 400-mile ride, will be joined by 50 other cyclists, travelling from Aldeburgh RNLI to Borth RNLI. She said: “These events are the perfect platform for Dyfed-Powys Police to showcase its commitment to the communities its serves and such a significant organisation, which delivers a vital service to ensure the safety of people in a time of need across the Ceredigion coast.

“This is a fantastic cause and in addition to thanking the RNLI, all of us taking part would like to thank the excellent support we have received from family, friends, colleagues and members of the public.”
