Carnival time in Llanelli goes smoothly

Crowds in excess of 20,000 were again attracted to the Annual Llanelli Christmas Carnival which was held on Friday 23rd November.

This event is now a firm and favoured fixture in the Festive calendar, playing host to an ever increasing carnival parade supported by stage and street entertainment, a fairground, street traders and a fireworks extravaganza.

“Planning for this event had been in place for some time,” said Sergeant Justin Evans. “Thanks to this planning the event went smoothly and peacefully.

“There were a total of six arrests which were made for minor public order and assault offences. Of those arrested, two have been charged, one cautioned and two bailed pending further inquiries.

“Officers also issued a number of Section 27 Direction to Leave notices early on in order to remove potential trouble makers from the town centre.

“This year the event was mainly policed by our Police Community Support Officers from Llanelli Neighbourhood Policing Team and Special Constables drawn from a number of stations across the Force. There was also support from local NPT and Patrol officers.

“All in all it was a well attended, well run event that was fun for the families and groups of people who came to watch.”
