Neighbourhood Policing in Pembrokeshire

Neighbourhood policing forms a key component of the Government’s Police Reform programme and sets out a vision for policing which is accessible and responsive to the needs of all our communities. Neighbourhood policing teams are currently being rolled out throughout the county of Pembrokeshire.

In Pembrokeshire there will be 12 neighbourhood teams, including the two teams which have been piloted in Milford Haven and Haverfordwest since July 2006.

Each neighbourhood policing team, comprises of an Inspector, a Sergeant, Police Constables, Police Community Support officers, volunteers and other partner agency staff, who have specific geographical ownership and accountability for their local neighbourhoods. By working in partnership they will target the issues which matter most to communities.

In addition to the current teams, a further ten teams will operate from bases at Neyland, Pembroke Dock, Tenby, Saundersfoot, Narberth, Crymych, St Davids and Fishguard.

Pembrokeshire police division is committing 15 Constables and twenty Police Community Support officers to the 12 identified neighbourhood policing areas. The neighbourhood officers will work alongside colleagues who provide a 24 hour response capability as well as officers from other specialist teams within the division.

The teams will engage directly with communities at all levels in order to identify the quality of life issues that affect people the most. This could include anti-social behaviour, the fear of crime or environmental factors. Working with our partner agencies and with the communities themselves, the aim is to prioritise those issues and provide positive action and feedback.

Neighbourhood officers will provide a high visibility presence and a level of service with a ‘hands on’ personal approach.
