Roads Policing
Dyfed Powys Police is geographically located at the very heart of the Welsh region. There are two ferry terminals with daily sailings serving the Republic of Ireland and providing a direct onward link with mainland Europe, we police the transport links for this strategic gateway to Ireland. As well as policing a significant proportion of the arterial east/west road and rail links for the region, the Dyfed Powys Police area also covers all north/south arterial links for Wales. Dyfed Powys Police shares its border with the three other Welsh forces as well West Mercia for its entire border with England, there are significant conurbations within a very short travelling distance from the communities we police. Two thirds of the force area is surrounded by the coast and there are numerous harbours and small ports accessed by road linking the Irish sea and beyond with mainland Britain.
In Dyfed Powys Police we are experienced in policing this area, its roads and the travelling criminality linked to this. The combination of both fixed and mobile ANPR provides an invaluable tool in denying the criminal use of the roads. Whether its use is investigative, proactive or deterrent, the Dyfed Powys Police ANPR infrastructure is key in policing our communities and beyond.
Our Roads Policing Unit is committed to reducing road casualties. Officers and staff on the Unit deliver a service ranging from the investigation of fatal road traffic collisions, targeted road safety campaigns addressing local and national needs, VIP and abnormal load escort through to the provision of a response service to our community. The members of the Roads Policing Unit work closely with numerous partnership agencies and organisations as well colleagues in the other Welsh and neighbouring Police Forces in order to deliver an effective service.
Dyfed Powys Police currently operate a fleet of Volvo V70 D5 patrol vehicles together with a number of Yamaha FJR1300 motorcycles.
