The Professional Standards Department

What We Do

The Professional Standards Department (PSD) of Dyfed-Powys Police is situated at Police Headquarters at Llangunnor, near Carmarthen and is headed by a Detective Superintendent. The Department is responsible for dealing with complaints and issues of misconduct from members of the public and internal misconduct investigations. The Department also includes an Anti Corruption Unit whose staff are responsible for tackling and preventing corrupt or unethical behaviour. The Department consists of experienced investigators consisting of Police Officers and Police Staff who perform a variety of roles.

Vetting Officer

The Force’s Vetting Officer is also situated within the Professional Standards Department. The Vetting Officer’s role is to ensure that only those who display the highest standards of conduct and integrity are recruited to work for Dyfed-Powys Police. The Vetting Officer is also responsible for ensuring that those staff who occupy safety critical or sensitive posts are vetted to higher standards.

Improving Our Service

The Force uses the information gained from investigations to improve the service given to the public.  PSD Officers liaise closely with local police commanders and provide them with a range of information, including trends and analysis, numbers and types of complaints and lessons learnt from complaints and misconduct cases.

Making a Complaint

We aim to provide the best possible level of service to the public. However, there may be an occasion where you feel that the conduct of an Officer / Member of Staff falls below the standard expected.  Whilst we will make every effort to resolve the issue in respect of which you are dissatisfied, you also have a right to formally register a complaint against Police.
