Chief Superintendent Peter Roderick
Peter has a vast amount of policing experience spanning three decades, this being supplemented with secondments to the National Police Training at Harrogate and Bramshill Police Staff Colleges, and also to the Regional Training Centre in Cwmbran (1996-1999).
Peter started his policing career in South Wales Police as a Special Constable in 1984, and then as a Police Constable with the Metropolitan Police in 1986. He later transferred forces to Gloucestershire Constabulary, where he served in the Forest of Dean and then finally to Dyfed-Powys Police in 1992. Peter, whilst on a career break in 2002, worked in the Balkans (Kosovo) and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, where he project managed key work streams that built capacity in the newly formed civil service in that region.
Peter served as an Inspector in Dyfed-Powys Police for over ten years and similarly, as a Chief Inspector for the same period, holding numerous roles and portfolios at both divisional level and specialist HQ functions. In 2017, Peter was promoted to Superintendent - Head of Learning & Development, where he brought about the restructure of the department and prepared for the introduction of the new degree programme for recruits under the national Police Education Qualifications Framework.
Peter has extensive experience in firearms command having fulfilled firearms commander roles at both the tactical and strategic level, he being first introduced into the specialist arena in 2005. Peter assesses on both the regional and national Tactical and Strategic Firearms courses.
Since November 2018, Peter has taken on the role Chief Superintendent - Head of Uniform Policing for the Force. He is responsible for all aspects of uniform policing and service delivery across the four counties of the Force Area, this including the necessary specialist support functions and the important neighborhood policing and partnership arrangements essential for local problem solving and effective community engagement.
Peter has a particular interest in developing others through coaching and mentoring, both inside and outside of the workplace. He is married, a father of four, grandfather of three and a keen DIY enthusiast.
