The Dyfed-Powys Police Freedom of Information Unit (FOI) is based at Police Headquarters and is responsible for processing all requests for information under the FOI Act and the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR). Requests for information that fall under the Data Protection Act 1998 are processed by the Data Protection Department.
The unit is also responsible for coordinating the Publication Scheme and raising awareness to staff throughout the force. The unit aims to promote and create an atmosphere of openness and transparency by encouraging and working with departments and divisions to ensure the proactive publication of non-harmful information via the Publication Scheme and through disclosure upon request.
We have seen an increase in FOI requests year-on-year since January 2005. This has not only had an impact on the staff within the Freedom of Information Unit but also on the departments and divisions who provide the information requested for processing. We receive requests on a variety of subjects. The unit aims to publish a variety of requests that may be of interest to individuals or organisations through the FOI disclosure log.
