Llanelli is the latest town to benefit from the installation of hi-tech CCTV cameras in the Police and Crime Commissioner’s re-investment programme in a modern CCTV infrastructure.
19 cameras are now live and recording across the town.
Llanelli is the sixth town in Dyfed-Powys to benefit from the upgraded CCTV system.
A modern CCTV Monitoring Room is also being introduced in the Force Communication Centre at Police Headquarters, Llangunnor, which will allow cameras to be monitored centrally by dedicated staff.
Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn has been out and about in the town speaking to local businesses about the reinstatement of the cameras.
Dafydd Llywelyn, Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “Having visited Llanelli recently to see things for myself and speak with staff, I am immensely pleased that CCTV is back in Llanelli. I promised to deliver on this key election pledge and to see it in action supporting officers and staff in their work in safeguarding our communities and investigating crime gives me great satisfaction. I look forward to other towns getting this investment in the coming months.”
Sharon and Vicky from Candle & Co. said: “We welcome the CCTV cameras in the town. It will help bring a safer and more secure environment to the town centre.”
Oyster Fish Bar said: “We’re excited to hear the news of the CCTV in Llanelli, as it will help prevent disturbance and vandalism in Llanelli.”
Mark Collins, Dyfed-Powys Police Chief Constable, said: “I’m delighted that the cameras are now up and running in Llanelli, which is one of our most urban areas across the force. I’m sure officers and the community as a whole will benefit from having the CCTV system in place to help keep our communities safe and assist with the detection of crimes that may be committed in the town.
“Our CCTV Project Team is continuing to work closely with contactors to maintain the progress in the delivery of what is a complex project for the force.”
Further information about the camera locations is available on the Dyfed-Powys Police website.
