Action

Urban gangs are operating in Llanelli, where drug dealing gangs are befriending vulnerable people and taking over their homes, people are being exploited and asked to carry drugs.  These gangs are using violence and intimidation to take control of a local area to increase their drug dealing enterprise.

In order to address this we are asking members of the public to call 101 or 999 to report any drug activity in the neighbourhood.  We are also engaging with schools and colleges cascading relevant information onto staff on how to spot any signs.  Drug intelligence is being gathered with a view to carrying out warrants.

High visibility patrols will be continued throughout the patch to gather further information to tackle drug activity by engaging with members of the public and business’ within the area and focusing on hotspot areas.

For help and advice regarding additions please refer to The Wales Drug and Alcohol Helpline – 0808 808 2234.

Action

Recently there have been a high number of calls regarding scamming. Residents have expressed concerns about postal scams, telephone scams, online scams and cold callers. NPT are reminding members of the public to never provide banking details when asked, genuine callers will never ask for these details.

NPT have attended to provide safety talks to people who are likely to be targeted by scammers. Such places include residential homes, youth groups, and private residences. Once a month NPT conduct joint visits with trading standards to persons who we believe have been targeted by scammers and joint beat surgeries are also held across Carmarthen.
