FOI Reference: 100/2023
Request:
1) I would like to know about how many crimes have been reported in supermarkets for each of the below:
- Pembrokeshire
- Ceredigion
- Carmarthenshire
For 2022, 2021 and 2020.
2) And also how many convictions have occurred for the crimes in each area.
Clarification:
The following clarification was provided:
It is for crimes only and also just for supermarkets – Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, Morrisons, Asda and Co-Op.
In addition to the above the applicant was asked if convictions referred to the number of individuals charged/summonsed or the number of individuals found guilty at court. The applicants response is as follows:
Ideally both if possible please? If there is an issue with the number of individuals found guilty at court, then just the number charged or summonsed would be fine.
Response 1:
I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, the details of which are as follows:
Please note: The below figures relate to crimes with the offence location listed as Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, Morrisons, Asda and Co-Op.

Response 2:
I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, the details of which are as follows:
Please also note: The below figures relate to crimes with the offence location listed as Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, Morrisons, Asda and Co-Op resulting in an individual being summonsed or charged. In addition to this it is likely that to provide a response in relation to the number of individuals found guilty at court would exceed the 18 hour time limit, consequently only charged and summonsed data has been outlined.

It should be noted that owing to the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such matters the information provided may or may not be accurate.
Police Forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recoding criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. It should be noted that for these reasons this Force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
