FOI Reference: 1009/2023
Request:
I am writing to request specific information under the Freedom of Information Act, pertaining to the seizure of XL Bully dogs by your force from the year 2019 to the present day.
I am particularly interested in the following details:
1. The total number of XL Bully dogs seized under Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
2. The number of these dogs that were seized under Section 3, specifically those deemed dangerous or out of control.
3. Of the dogs seized, how many were assessed and subsequently determined not to be a banned breed.
4. Among the dogs deemed not a banned breed, how many were returned to their respective owners. If any of the dogs were not returned to their owners, I would appreciate information on their subsequent outcome.
Response:
I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.
Please note: only information for 2023 is available, due to the fact that Prior to 2023 breeds were not listed in the records as a routine category.

Please note: XL Bully dogs have only become a banned breed since January 2024 – therefore none would have been seized under section 1 before then.
Also, in relation to the 2 XL Bully dogs seized in 2023, the cases are still ongoing and final outcome has not yet been reached, so they remain in police kennels.
It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
(This is a response under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and disclosed on 25/01/2024)
