FOI Reference: 989/2024
Request:
Now that I have the number of deaths in a hospital setting in 2021 which were reported to Dyfed Powys police, I was hoping to find out whether the specific reason for which each death was reported to Dyfed Powys police might also be able to be released.
If the above information is able to be disclosed, please consider this email as a further FoI request for the specific reason for which each of the 32 deaths in a hospital setting in 2021 was reported to Dyfed Powys police.
Response:
I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.
Cause of Death Unknown – Total: 23
Cardiac Arrest – Total: 8
Following Surgery – Total: 2
End of life – Expected – Total: 1
Infection/Sepsis – Total: 2
These statistics are higher than those provided in our 12/2024 response, we have been advised this is due to slightly different search parameters being conducted.
Please note that if you require further detailed information you will need to direct your request to the coroner’s office or via the health board.
It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
Furthermore, it should also be noted that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
