FOI Reference: 1228/2025
Request:
Please provide the total number of offences recorded as Rape of a female child under 16 (019/07; Sexual Offences Act 2003, s.5 Rape of a child under 16) between 1 January 2023 and 1 December 2025.
Response:
I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.
As the requested time period falls over both Dyfed-Powys Police crime recording systems (A new police crime recording system, NICHE, was implemented on 13th May 2023), the specific offence wording is slightly different. On the old system (pre 13th May 2023), the relevant offences are broken down by the two offences `Rape of a Female Child under 13’ and `Rape of a Female aged 13-15’. On NICHE, it is broken down by the two offences `Rape of a female aged under 16’ and `Rape of a female child under 13’.
For all four offences mentioned above, there was a total of 304 recorded offences between 1 January 2023 and 1 December 2025.
However, if you were to solely looking at the offence `Rape of a female child under 16 (019/07)’ relating to female children aged 13-15, there was a total of 232 recorded offences between 1 January 2023 and 1 December 2025.
It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
Furthermore, it should also be noted that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
