FOI Reference: 867/2025
Request:
The number of thefts logged by your force which include the terms 'copper' 'electric' 'charger' 'car' in the summary of the offence for the year to date
Please provide the figure for each of the following years: 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020
Response:
I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, the details of which are as follows:
Please note: For the figures outlined below for the terms ‘Copper’, ‘Electric’ and ‘Charger’ thefts the summary of Theft Offences were keyword searched by each term individually. For ‘Car’ thefts the summary of Vehicle Offences, with the offence type ‘Theft of a Motor Vehicle’ was keyword searched using the term ‘Car’.
It should be noted that only the summary of each occurrence was keyword searched. As a result, some occurrences may not be captured if the relevant information was recorded in the crime log rather than the summary.

In addition to the above figures a search query was also conducted with all terms together in a single query, this resulted in zero records being returned with a match.
It should be noted that owing to the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such matters the information provided may or may not be accurate. Police Forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recoding criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. It should be noted that for these reasons this Force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
