Request 1 - 3:

1. Does this force provide mandatory training for its officers, in handling those with neurodiverse conditions, who come into contact with police?

a. If so, could you provide details of this training? This might include how long it lasts, a brief outline of what is covered etc.

b. If this force does not providemandatory training for its officers in this area, could you provide details of any training which is offered?

2. Could you provide any copies, if they exist, of this forces protocol/guidance documents for handling those with neurodiverse conditions (for example at arrest, or in police custody)

a. If there is any separate protocol for autism, could you provide this as well?

3. Lastly, does this force use autism alert cards?

Response 1:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

We are not currently providing MANDATORY training for officers and staff, this is because we are currently developing an up to date package, when produced this will be mandatory training and will be completed by ALL officers and staff.

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

A police sergeant spends a day on mental health to new Custody Sgts and new Detention officers. The training gives a brief outline of some conditions, but there is nothing specific or in depth for any of the training with regards to neurodiversity. It is not mandatory training, but gives staff some idea about some of the mental health conditions.

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

Dyfed-Powys Police does not use alert cards, however, PCSO’s are aware that an Autism alert card may be produced to them if they have contact with a member of the public who is autistic.
