A PCSO who has impressed and inspired colleagues has been named as the winner of Police Staff of the Year at the Dyfed-Powys Police Force Awards.
Piotr Glowczyk, who is based in Llanelli, has been commended for his all-round work as a PCSO and going the extra mile when needed to ensure the safety of a kidnap victim.
In putting Piotr forward for this award, his Sergeant, Ben Ashton said: “Piotr is a very proactive officer always looking to be the first officer out the door at the start of the shift.
“He is acutely aware of the drugs issues on his ward and his proactive policing of the areas has resulted in a high number of intelligence logs submitted by him.
“He often finds himself involved in foot chases and apprehending suspects making a positive impact in the detection of crime."
Piotr, who is now training to be a police constable, often takes on additional role of interpreting for Polish victims and witnesses during initial contact to help expedite enquiries.
This draws him away from his work and, sometimes, family life but he takes this in his stride and embraces the ability to communicate and engage with Polish members of the community.
It is a role he does to make a difference.
One example of this was a sudden death.
Piotr helped translate and also arranged for a friend to stay with the deceased person’s wife, working beyond his shift to ensure a first-class service was provided.
This dedication even falls on his rest days.
Piotr was called into work when a suspected kidnap had taken place.
Four Polish suspects were in custody and the victim details and location were unknown. Having good knowledge of the community, Piotr was able to engage and trace the victim to establish he was home safe and well within hours.
His work has also gained the attention of some senior officers, with Chief Inspector Jolene Mann saying: “I continuously hear fantastic things about Piotr and his commitment to the role.
“He does a brilliant job, his continued professionalism and dedication does not go unnoticed.
“The engagement he has with the communities he serves is second to none. Without a doubt, he knows his communities – but most impressively, his communities know him.”
