OP COUPLAND UPDATE | Over the past few weeks we’ve been talking about Op Coupland – an operation which took place across Carmarthenshire targeting the Chief Constable’s priorities (drugs, domestic abuse and rape and serious sexual offences).

We can now give an update on the drugs offences recorded during the operation, which saw a total of six warrants being carried out, six people arrested, and investigations launched into 13 crimes.

Llanelli:

30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class C drugs with intent to supply following a warrant. He was found with 2.5oz of cocaine, 10,000 Valium tablets, 500 pregabalin tablets and anabolic steroids worth £10,000.

24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply after being found with 2oz of cocaine and 3oz of cannabis during a warrant.

Voluntary interview to be carried out with a man found in possession of magic mushrooms.

Carmarthen:

Two men – aged 19 and 22 – arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply after 2kg of cannabis and 200 ecstasy tablets were found during a warrant.

One member of an organised crime group (OCG) arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin with intent to supply. The investigation is ongoing.

Adult caution issued for possession of herbal cannabis.

Llangennech:

Adult caution issued to a person with 0.8g of herbal cannabis

Burry Port:

Adult cautions to be issued to three people found in possession of morphine tablets and cannabis

While drugs was one of the key areas of focus during the operation, officers also concentrated their efforts on tackling domestic abuse. A police car was dedicated each day to visiting victims, updating them on their crime reports and offering pathways to support. Over 15 days, 30 incidents of domestic abuse, stalking and harassment were progressed, along with 13 other crimes recorded.

T/Chief Inspector Rhys Jones said: “This was a very successful operation in terms of focussing on the Chief Constable’s priorities, which include making the Dyfed-Powys area hostile to those who deal drugs, and eliminating domestic abuse.

“These crimes are very often linked to other offences – from violent incidents to driving offences – and by honing in on these criminals we are making our communities safer places to live and work.

“This work will continue, and we will give regular updates where we can on the outcomes of these investigations.”
