Gary joined Dyfed-Powys in August 1996, his first station being Carmarthen where he worked as a PC until 2000 when he transferred to Ammanford CID. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and to Inspector in 2006 where he performed Detective Inspector roles in both Intelligence and CID functions.
In 2013, following a period working as the force Performance Manager, Gary was promoted onto the Regional Organised Crime Unit (Tarian) where he served as both a Detective Chief Inspector and T/Detective Superintendent. During this time, he gained experience in managing serious organised crime and covert investigations.
Gary returned to Dyfed-Powys in 2016 as DCI with responsibility for the counties of Powys and Carmarthenshire.
Gary took over the Detective Superintendent role of Director of Intelligence in July 2017 and CID Investigations lead in December 2019. Gary is a PIP 3 Senior Investigating Officer and is PIP 4 accredited in the Strategic Management of Complex Cases.
In January 2021 Gary became Local Policing Area Commander for Carmarthenshire, and in 2022 he took on the role of Head of CID. Gary lives in Carmarthenshire with his wife and two children.
