Gary joined Dyfed-Powys in August 1996, his first station being Carmarthen working as a PC until 2000, then transferring to Ammanford CID. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and to Inspector in 2006, performing Detective Inspector roles in both Intelligence and CID functions.
In 2013, Gary was promoted onto the Regional Organised Crime Unit (Tarian) where he served as both a Detective Chief Inspector and T/Detective Superintendent.
Gary returned to Dyfed-Powys in 2016 and was promoted to Detective Superintendent in July 2017, where he attained accreditation in both PIP3 (Senior Investigating Officer) and PIP 4 (Strategic Management of Complex Cases).
In January 2021 Gary became Local Policing Area Commander for Carmarthenshire, and in 2022 he took on the role of Head of CID for the force.
In July 2024 Gary was temporarily promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief Constable.
Gary lives in Carmarthenshire with his wife and two children.
In his spare time Gary enjoys keeping fit. He is a keen cricketer, previously representing the British Police Team. He has also coached junior cricket at local and regional level for a number of years.
