Jon has had a varied career, his service initially commencing in South Wales Police with roles in neighbourhood policing, response and investigation. Jon transferred to the Metropolitan Police in London in 2009. During his time in the Met, Jon worked in a number of roles in the challenging inner-city Lambeth, Southwark and Westminster Borough Operational Command Unit’s.
In January 2014, Jon transferred to Dyfed Powys as Deputy BCU Commander in Powys. During 2016, Jon undertook a short secondment to HMICFRS as part of the PEEL Inspection team.
Jon was promoted to Superintendent as Powys BCU Commander in December 2016, in April 2019 Jon took over as Head of Specialist Operations.
In early 2020, Jon was responsible for the force’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic as gold lead. In May 2020 as Chief Superintendent, Jon commenced his role as Head of Uniformed Policing, leading over 1000 officers and staff covering four local policing areas. Jon also held strategic responsibility for the Force Communications Centre, Neighbourhood Policing and Equality & Diversity.
Jon is an accredited Gold commander in Specialist Firearms, Public Order, CBRN and multi-agency incident command disciplines, and has led the response to a number of large-scale events and critical incidents.
Jon is a both a Fellow with the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI), Institute of Leadership and Management (FInstLM) and a Chartered Manager (CMgr). Jon also holds a BSc (Hons) in Policing and MBA from the University of South Wales, as well as MSc in Leadership & Management from Portsmouth University.
In May 2023, Jon was appointed to his current role as Head of Criminal Justice and Custody
