Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Ifan Charles: Criminal Investigation Department
Ifan's policing career started in March 2004 where he spent eight years in Llanelli performing both uniform and CID roles. A move to Powys followed in 2013 as a Detective Inspector with responsibilities for child protection, adult protection and management of offenders in the community. Ifan has performed the role of Detective Chief Inspector in Pembrokeshire, Powys, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. During these roles he has been responsible for the investigation of serious crime such as murder and manslaughter, being recognised as an accredited Senior Investigating Officer by the College of Policing. Further responsibilities have included the role of Director of Intelligence and Head of Learning and Development.
He was promoted to Superintendent and became BCU Commander for Powys, before taking the same role for Carmarthenshire in May 2020.
He was born in Carmarthen and has three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, walking and cycling. He has a Master of Arts degree in Professional Practice.
