👮 Meet Lloyd: Engineer Surveyor by day, Special Constable by night.
Wanting to give back to his community and make a difference, Lloyd stepped outside of his comfort zone and joined us as a Special Constable in October 2015.
Since then, Lloyd has experienced a real boost in confidence, and his motivation has only continued to grow. Not only is he all about supporting his community, he’s also passionate about contributing to the work of the police service.
Lloyd loves working in a team, the excitement of never knowing what each shift will bring, and the feeling that he’s really making a difference. Having received all the right training, he’s prepared to deal with a wide range of challenges that he would never face in his day job as an engineer.
💬 Thinking of applying? Here’s what Lloyd said:
"You will see people at their worst, people at their lowest point, or in crisis, and people who need your help. Every shift is different, with highs and lows. The job will challenge you and sometimes shock you, but it’ll also make you a better person and fill you with a real sense of pride."
🚓 Meet Anthony, a carpenter from Llandrindod Wells, and a proud Special Constable since March 2021!
When he’s not working ‘on the tools’ or out serving his community, Anthony enjoys spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle - when the weather allows! He’s also recently become a town councillor, continuing his passion for giving back to the community.
One of his proudest career moments was completing his training and being sworn in as a Special Constable, before progressing up the ranks to the role of Sergeant. Anthony loves being part of the action and working with his team, particularly when it means getting involved in drugs warrants.
💬 His advice for new recruits is simple: "Get involved as much as you can – it helps build stronger relationships with your colleagues and the community!
👮 Meet Karen, a Sergeant in our Special Constabulary
Ten years ago, Karen had no idea that she’d be spending her days working in a marketing office and her evenings executing drug warrants with Dyfed-Powys Police. Today, as she prepares to celebrate a decade of service as a Special Constable, Karen’s story is a perfect example of how this unique role allows individuals to experience life on the frontline - even while balancing a busy professional career.
After two years as a Special Constable, Karen was promoted to a Sergeant, where she now leads a small team of Special Constables in the Pembrokeshire area. “The role is a complete contrast to my marketing career, which is largely office-based” says Karen, “it has allowed me to step into the heart of the community as I meet and talk with people from all walks of life.”
💬 “It’s a challenging role, and it can often test your limits, but that’s what makes it so worthwhile. If you’re looking to expand your skillset, build your confidence, and give back to the community, there is no career like it. I wholeheartedly recommend becoming a Special Constable, it truly allows you to have the best of both worlds.”
