Could I kindly request if you have the breakdown by ethnicity group as broken down in previous years as the following for the years 2022 and 2023.

Please note: The data is not broken down individually by “Asian”; “Chinese”; “Japanese”;  “south east Asian”, only by the two categories “Asian” and “Chinese, Japanese & south east Asian” pre-NICHE (NICHE is the new Police Recording System introduced on the 15/05/2023). Since the implementation of NICHE, ethnicity of victims / suspects are recorded using the Home Office (HO) codes so we would be unable to break the data from this period down by the two previous categories “Asian” and “Chinese, Japanese & south east Asian”. However, it can be broken down by the HO Offence Codes provided for both periods.

A manual trawl was completed of the records categorised as ‘not stated’ to identify the ethnicity but there are a number where there is no related information recorded, so it has remained as ‘not stated’.

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.

Furthermore, it should also be noted that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
