Civil claim settlement payouts 902/2024

Request:

1) The overall number of civil claims settled and b) the total cost in settlement payouts in each financial year from 2019/20 to
2023/24, in relation to claims made to members of the public.

2) Particularly, a breakdown of how many of these claims were for malfeasance and the total amount paid in such cases would be useful.

Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 places two duties on public authorities. Unless exemptions apply, the first duty at Section 1(1) (a) is to confirm or deny whether the information specified in a request is held. The second duty at Section 1(1) (b) is to disclose information that has been confirmed as being held.

2019/2020 – 23 of which 8 settled, value £70,584.74 of which claims for misfeasance in public office – nil

2020/2021 – 16 of which 6 settled, value £22,826.00 of which for misfeasance in public office – nil

2021/2022 – 35 of which 10 settled, value £132,962.66 of which for misfeasance in public office – nil

2022/2023 – 35 of which 6 settled, value £13,450.00 of which for misfeasance in public office – nil

2023/2024 – 45 of which 5 settled, value £5,250.00 of which for misfeasance in public office - nil
