1. Since 2013, how many Scrap Metal Dealers were prosecuted for operating without a licence? Please differentiate between site licenses and mobile collector’s licences?

2. Since 2013, how many Scrap Metal Dealers were convicted for operating without a licence? Please differentiate between site licenses and mobile collector’s licences.

3. Since 2013, how many Scrap Metal Dealers were prosecuted for paying cash for scrap? Please differentiate between site licenses and mobile collector’s licences.

Response 1:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

A total number of two (2) Scrap Metal Dealers were prosecuted for operating without a licence. In both these cases it was in regard to mobile operators.

Response 2-4:

I can confirm that there is no information held by Dyfed Powys Police Force as zero (0) prosecutions or convictions were recorded for these offences.

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.

Furthermore, it should also be noted that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data.
