Use of force against over 65s 553/2025

Request:

Please can you tell me how many times the following methods of force were deployed by this force against people aged 65+, disaggregating the data by exact age and by the years 2022, 2023 and 2024.

CED/Taser
Firearms
Spit and bite guard
Irritant spray - including PAVA and CS 
AEP
Baton
Dog bite

Response:

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below.

Please note: There were 11 incidences between 2022-2023 whereby use of force was utilised. However, there were 3 additional cases in which the data quality did not verify age, therefore have been excluded from the data set used. There were no cases that met the criteria for 2024 on our data recording systems.                                   

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.

Furthermore, it should also be noted that Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
