Request

I am writing to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would like to request a copy of your policies on Family Liaison Officers, in particular, in relation to their deployment in the case of families bereaved by suicide.

I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:

1. What guidance do you follow for the deployment of family liaison officers?

2. Does your guidance allow for the deployment of Family Liaison Officer’s in the case of families bereaved by suicide?

• Yes, if so, please detail the requirement for deployment
• No, if not please detail the reason for this

I can confirm that Dyfed-Powys Police does hold the information requested, as outlined below:-

Response Q1

Dyfed-Powys Police refer to the Family Liaison section of the College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice and NPCC Guidance.

There is no current local Policy in place.

Response Q2

The national guidance does not specify a deployment in cases of suicide. However any critical incident where Family liaison might enhance the effectiveness of the Police response would be considered. E.g suicide pact.  Cases of suicide in children have also resulted in an FLO deployment

It should be noted that as a result of the systems adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police in relation to the recording of such information that the information released may or may not be accurate.
